The Vietnamese Government has approved a plan to upgrade capacity of a zinc powder plant in northern Tuyen Quang province to 10,000 tons/year from the current 7,000 tons/year, the government said on its website.

The plant, located in the Long Binh An industrial zone, was included in a blueprint for exploring, mining, processing and using lead and zinc ore in the country by 2020, which was passed by the Prime Minister in August 2006, reported the website, giving no more details of the project.

Under the plan, Vietnam will inject VND460 billion (US$27.218 million) in lead and zinc mining projects between now and 2020, including a new modern zinc refinery with a capacity of 15,000-20,000 tons per year.

Between 2006 and 2015, VND64 billion are set to be allocated for exploring lead and zinc mines. (chinhphu.vn)
