The Vietnamese Prime Minister has approved expansion of a pilot e-customs declaration program in 10 localities beginning October 1 and running through the end of 2011.

Customs offices in Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Danang and customs offices in the provinces of Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau will participate in the program.

E-customs declarations will also be applied in other provincial and municipal customs offices under the proposal of the Ministry of Finance, said the newspaper.

The e-customs program, which is designed to standardize procedures nationwide and shorten the time it takes to clear customs, is part of a larger e-commerce project undertaken by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The program has been piloted in Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City since October 2005. (Liberation Saigon, New Hanoi)
