Vietnam’s first rice festival will take place in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang from Nov 26 -30 in order to strengthen the prestige of Vietnamese rice brands.

The local authorities and the Southern Food Corporation will jointly hold the event, which is expected to attract foreign delegations.

Truong Thanh Phong chairman of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) said that the event would be a great opportunity to advertise Vietnam’s rice brand names abroad and to seek potential partners.

Vietnam is the world’s second largest rice exporter behind Thailand. The General Statistics Office estimated that the country shipped around 4.28 million tons of rice valued at $1.98 billion in the first seven months of this year. (STD)
