On June 19, 2008, Phu My Hung New City Center was awarded the “Model New Urban Area” by the Ministry of Construction, the first town in Vietnam to receive such honor. This is a work that has consumed numberless energy and efforts of the Management and staff of Phu My Hung Corporation over the past 16 years.
Ms. Ba Dah Wen President of Phu My Hung Corp. extended her gratitude to the Government and relevant agencies for guidance and support. She also mentioned the vitality of the decisions made by the two late chairmen, Mr. Lawrence S. Ting and Mr. Ferdinand Tsien Peng Lun. “Without their far-sighted vision, courage and determination, we wouldn’t have had today’s glory.” She said.
Phu My Hung Corp. was established on May 19, 1993, a joint venture between Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Company (IPC, representing HCMC People’s Committee) and Central Trading & Development Group (CT&D) from Taiwan. Its first task was to build the 17.8km-long Nguyen Van Linh Parkway including bridges, sewers, drainage, street lighting and greenery along the parkway linking Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone in District 7 and National Highway 1A in Binh Chanh County, HCM. This parkway was entirely completed in Dec 2007 and cost US$100million.
Concurrently, the Phu My Hung New City Center has been developed along the parkway since 1998. To date, the merely swampland 16 years ago has been transformed into a modern township and civilized community. Some 7,000 apartments and houses have been built while the other 3,000 units are being delivered, floor area totaling to nearly two million square meters. It is home to more than 20,000 people. The locals comprise half of the population while foreigners of more than 25 nationalities constitute the other half.
In addition to apartments and houses, a few office buildings have been built for lease and tenants include multinational companies such as Manulife and Unilever. Local brands like Petroland and Vinamilk are constructing new office buildings here at this moment while other new projects are on the way to emerge in this new urban area. Besides, the first international standard exhibition hall was put into operation last October and the other three will be developed phase by phase now onwards. Other commercial projects including Saigon Paragon Department Store and prestigious car showrooms are also at service at present.
Excitingly, an iconic lifestyle project, the Crescent, is being added to the new city’s portfolio. Located on an attractive waterway, the Crescent will be a traffic free zone for walking and relaxing. It is comprised of four individually designed and fitted buildings. Three of them will provide luxury, fully furnished serviced apartments, and the fourth will offer 10,000m2 office plazas. A retail parade and waterside walk arc the Crescent, starting from the river via the Starlight footbridge, to the 45,000m2 Crescent Mall. Away from the overcrowded streets of downtown, the Crescent is all about effortless lifestyle, with ease and convenience catered for. The Crescent is the premier location whether you are new in town or looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle.
The success results from an AIA (American Institute of Architect) awarded master plan, sophisticatedly placed infrastructure, comprehensively provided facilities, strictly executed city planning and endless improvements on project development and maintenance. None of the abovementioned factors is dispensable. The credits are given to the authorities, consultants, architects, suppliers, contractors and agents.
Along with the implementation of its projects, Phu My Hung Corp. and other CT&D’s subsidiaries hand in hand have carried out charity programs to fulfill social responsibilities by building schools and granting scholarships to local young pupils, donating computer labs to chosen high schools throughout Vietnam’s 63 provinces and cities, constructing houses for the poor in countryside, helping disabled children and orphans etc. So far, the disbursement of these programs has amounted to nearly VND130 billion.
10 years ago, CT&D kept its promise to Vietnam with consistent input to the projects while the Financial Crisis was sweeping across Asia. Its perseverance and persistence have won trust of governments and people. On this concrete foundation, CT&D and Phu My Hung Corp. will walk firm against the current economic downturn again and keep its pace to realize the new urban project eventually.
