Vietnam Discusses on ATA Carnet Application to Facilitate Exports
A seminar on “Admission Temporaire-Temporary Admission (ATA) Carnet and Application in Vietnam” opened in Hanoi on Oct 12, aiming to promote the application of the new customs system in the country to expand its export markets.
The ATA Carnet, known as the “passport for goods” is an international customs document issued by 70 countries, allowing the holder to temporarily import goods without payment of normally applicable duties and taxes, including value-added taxes for up to one year.
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Confederation of Asian-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) co-held the seminar.
The application of the ATA Carnet system is very important for Vietnam as it will make customs procedures much easier for Vietnamese exporters to expand their overseas markets, said ICC’s Asian Director, Lee Ju Song.
In June, the Taiwanese External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) inked an agreement with the VCCI to grant and guarantee ATA Carnet for Vietnam’s equipment and items displayed at exhibitions and trade fairs. (Vietnam Economics Times, VNA)
