Vietnam PM Wraps up Visit to China
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung wrapped up his three-day visit to China on October 15-17 with agreement reached with his counterpart Wen Jiabao to properly deal with territory demarcation disputes and boost trade and investment.
This is the third visit by PM Dung to China at the invitation of Wen for the 2nd Western China International Cooperation Forum in the south-western city of Chengdu.
During a meeting in Chengdu, Dung and Wen pledged to handle border disputes and South China Sea issues between their countries peacefully.
Mr Dung also witnessed signing of agreements at Vietnam-China trade and economic cooperation forum in Chongqing on October 17, including a US$40 million deal between Vietnam Rubber Corp. and Chongqing Chemical Co, LiFan’s US$20 million deal to build automobile factory in Bac Kan province, a US$40 million between Hanaka Vietnam and a Chinese aluminum group.
China is a leading economic partner with Vietnam. Trade between Vietnam and China posted average growth of 25% between 2001 and 2008.
Despite the global economic downturn, two-way trade reached US$12.5 billion and is expected to hit US$19 billion to US$20 billion this year, Dung added. (CPV, chinhphu.vn)
