Vietnam Ministry Proposes Set-up of Border Free Trade Zones

The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed the government establish border free trade zones with Laos, Cambodia and China, aiming to further boost bilateral trade.
 
The ministry suggested the government add border trade development cooperation activities in the bilateral governmental cooperation programs.
 
Vietnam and China plan to build cross-border trade zones of Kim Thanh-Hekou, Dong Dang-Beishan and Mong Cai-Dongxing.
 
Laos and Cambodia have also proposed setup of free trade areas with Vietnam.
 
Vietnam has to date established 87 border gates, including 22 international ones.
 
Vietnam’s trade with China is expected to grow 6.9% from a year earlier to US$21.5 billion while its trade with Cambodia to hit US$2 billion, representing on-year rise of 17.5%.
 
Vietnam and Laos aim to boost the bilateral trade to US$1 billion by 2010 and US$2 billion by 2015. (Saigon Marketing)
