Vietnam to Set up Telecom Enterprise Association in Q2
Vietnam plans to establish an association of telecommunications enterprises in the second quarter of this year.
The setup of the association, which was proposed by telecom firms in a meeting with the Ministry of Information and Communication in late 2009, aims to help create a common voice among the businesses on hot issues related to connection fees, telecom service charges and unhealthy competition.
Currently, the ministry is also working on a plan to manage telecom service charges to ensure healthy competition in the local market.
Vietnam’s telecom industry had revenues of VND150 trillion (US$7.85 billion) in 2009, an increase of 62% on year. At end-2009, Vietnam had 130.4 million phone subscribers, up 50% from the end of 2008, and 85% of them were mobile subscribers.
Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), Viettel and FPT are now the three largest telecom enterprises in the nation. (Investment)
