Vietnam PM Approves National Program on Hi-tech Development

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a national program entitled “Developing High Technology Till 2020”, the government said on its website.
 
Under the program, by 2020 the country will have some 500 enterprises providing hi-tech products and services, and about 200 agricultural companies applied with high technologies operating in key economic zones.
 
The proportion of hi-tech value in the country’s industrial production is expected at 30% by 2015 and 40% by 2020, while that value in the agricultural production will be doubled in 2020 from 2015.
 
The program will focus on developing four hi-tech industries, namely information and communication technology (ICT), biotechnology, automatic technology and new material technology.
 
Regarding ICT, Vietnam will focus on developing microchips, basic software and technologies that ensure the operation of modern telecom infrastructure, new-generation Internet network, and manufacture of terminals.
 
In terms of biotechnology, gene technologies which will be applied in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, especially the fatal ones; and production of recombinant vaccines and protein, genetic modified plants, and microorganisms will be boosted.
 
To implement the program, 500 leaders of hi-tech production projects, 10,000 engineers and researchers will be trained intensively, while 500 voluntary foreign experts and 1,000 overseas Vietnamese experts will be tapped. (www.chinhphu.vn, Investment)
