Vietnam Ministry Considers $2.2B Power Project of Malaysia Jaks Resources

The Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology is mulling over to grant an investment license to Jaks Resources Berhad of Malaysia to build a $2.2-billion coal-fired power plant in the northern province of Hai Duong.
 
Jaks Resources plans to build the 1,200-MW plant under the form of building-operation and transfer (BOT), the provincial Department of Planning and Investment said.
 
The two-turbine plant will occupy 200 hectares of land in Phuc Thanh commune of Kinh Mon district.
 
The facility is expected to generate 7.8 billion kWh of power per year once fully operational.
 
The Malaysian firm is seeking a permission from the province to implement a $50-million project to mine coal at Co Kenh pit to feed the power plant.
 
Vietnam plans to build 90 coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 106,000 MW and a total investment of $83 billion through 2025. (Investment)
