VCCI Danang: A Fellow of Enterprise in Central Vietnam

In an effort to develop Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands areas, regional provinces and cities have actively launched influencing programmes to make themselves known. Similarly, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in general and VCCI branch in Danang City in particular (VCCI Danang) with its ability, profession and enthusiasm, has brought great images of Central Vietnam and the entire nation to the world. All efforts by the prestigious VCCI are aimed at contributing to economic renovation during the process of international integration.

However, encountering difficulties is inevitable in a developing country. It has to cope with supply problems of raw materials and fuels for the national production as well as unavoidable natural disasters and diseases. The situation is even worse in the Central and Central Highlands region as it seems to be still unattractive to foreign investors. To overcome such difficulties, VCCI and VCCI Danang have strived to set up concrete action plans to develop the region and the nation.

The following activities and results of VCCI Danang have proved its influencing roles over the Party and the State in outlining laws and policies and improving the business environment. The branch cooperated with the Danang City People’s Committee to hold a talk for local authorities and enterprises in the city. The talk attracted the participation of 140 enterprises and leaders of 15 city governing bodies. The branch helped two sides level up differences so that they could join forces to make common sound policies to boost exportation, to introduce master plans to develop key careers, streamline procedures and others to make great leaps forward in the coming years. To strengthen exchanges and ties between the ruling Party and enterprise community, VCCI Danang successfully organised an annual meeting for the Prime Minister and enterprises.

To improve the investment and business environment, VCCI with its planned programmes has boosted promulgation of business laws.

In 2004, the branch has contacted with diplomatic organs and foreign trade and investment promotion organisations to introduce them to investment and business potential and opportunities in Central Vietnam. It also associated with trade and investment promotion bodies in Central and Central Highlands Vietnam to call for more investment into the region. In addition, the branch also acts as a representative for workers.

It was said that after the fourth Congress, activities of VCCI in general and VCCI Danang in particular have been upgraded in terms of both scale and quality. Under the proper guidance of the VCCI standing committee and other divisions, the tireless efforts of VCCI Danang and active participations of enterprises in the Central and Central Highlands region last year made perfect results as mentioned above. However, VCCI has not removed all the shortcomings for the region, which in turn limits the reception of new members as well as diffusing of its image.

Basically, VCCI Danang made huge progress in 2004, facilitating the accomplishment of new tasks in 2005. With concrete policies and plans, the branch aims to admit more members, especially in potential provinces like Quang Tri, Hue, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh and Dak Lak, and to boost cooperation with local authorities, press correspondents and others to develop the operation of other organisations as well.

With its encouraging results in 2004 and great prospects for 2005, assistance from VCCI and the enthusiastic participation of enterprises, VCCI Danang expects that 2005 will be another successful year for the branch and the enterprise community in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands.
