In the dynamic economic landscape of Dien Bien, a border province of Vietnam, entrepreneur Nguyen Thi Tham, Director of Viet Anh Dien Bien Service and Trading Co., Ltd., is widely known as a resilient and determined “Golden Rose” of the Northwest. Beyond developing a strong and diversified business ecosystem in construction materials, coal mining, and hospitality services, she is distinguished by her inspiring entrepreneurial journey, rising from nothing through courage, perseverance, and a bold spirit of risk-taking.

From a handcrafted brick kiln to a multi-sector ecosystem
In 2000, with modest savings and family support, Tham and her husband opened a small handcrafted brick kiln. Despite many challenges, they remained committed to maintaining product quality, gradually establishing a firm foothold in the local market.

By 2009, they founded Dien Bien High-Tech Tunnel Brick Building Materials Co., Ltd., which was restructured in 2019 into Dien Bien High-Tech Tunnel Brick Building Materials JSC. Recognizing that reliance on external raw materials could limit growth, Tham made a bold move to acquire a coal mine and established Tay Bac Industrial Investment Co., Ltd., which now produces up to 500,000 cubic meters of coal annually. This strategic decision ensured a stable raw material supply and enhanced the long-term competitiveness of her enterprises.
Building on that foundation, she and her husband invested in a modern brick factory equipped with advanced, robot-assisted production technology. This innovation not only reduced labor needs and increased productivity but also helped minimize environmental impact, reflecting a forward-thinking approach consistent with Vietnam’s green and sustainable development goals.

In 2021, recognizing Dien Bien’s untapped tourism potential, Tham spearheaded the development of the Dong Tham Hotel, an eight-story modern facility in Muong Thanh Ward. The hotel quickly became a popular choice for visitors, helping to elevate the province’s accommodation standards. She is also planning a large-scale tourism and resort complex designed to transform the local tourism landscape and drive Dien Bien’s service-sector growth.
“Igniting the startup spirit” among young entrepreneurs
Tham’s reputation is not only built on her remarkable success but also on the strength and resilience behind her journey. From a small handcrafted brick kiln, through persistence and a continuous learning mindset, she and her husband have developed a robust, multi-sector business ecosystem contributing significantly to Dien Bien’s economic growth.
“Starting a business is never an easy road. But with determination, perseverance, and consistency, any obstacle can be overcome,” Tham shared. Her story offers a vivid lesson for young people: dare to start, dare to act, and stay steadfast in pursuing your goals.
Entrepreneur Nguyen Thi Tham is more than a “Golden Rose” of Dien Bien; she represents the spirit of innovative, courageous, and compassionate entrepreneurship. Her accomplishments embody the power of perseverance and serve as an enduring source of inspiration for current and future generations.

The Dien Bien Women Entrepreneurs Club unites a wide network of female business leaders across the province. In addition to serving as a platform for networking, sharing management experience, and fostering partnership opportunities, the club plays an important role as a bridge between the business community and local authorities, helping to promote a transparent and supportive business environment. The club also places strong emphasis on social welfare and charitable activities, including supporting women-led startups, providing gifts to underprivileged students in remote areas, and building community and social houses. These initiatives have strengthened the humanitarian spirit and community engagement of Dien Bien’s female business leaders. In late July 2025, after Typhoon No. 3 severely impacted Dien Bien, the club mobilized its members to donate cash and goods worth billions of dong. Club Chairwoman Trinh Thi Men collaborated with the Long Hoa Ward Volunteer Group from Tay Ninh province to organize a donation campaign that attracted many benefactors to support affected residents. As a result, 600 gift packages, including six tons of rice and nearly 12,000 essential items, were delivered directly to 600 households in the communes of Xa Dung, Muong Luan, Na Son, Tia Dinh, and Phinh Giang. As a prominent member of the club, entrepreneur Nguyen Thi Tham has actively contributed both intellectually and financially to its activities. Her company, Dien Bien High-Tech Tunnel Brick Building Materials JSC, has repeatedly donated bricks and sand to support the construction of community houses, gratitude homes, and rural roads in disadvantaged areas. These contributions demonstrate not only material generosity but also the compassion and social responsibility of a businesswoman deeply connected to Vietnam’s borderlands. |
