PetroVietnam to Tap Oil, Gas in New Fields
Vietnam’s State oil and gas monopoly PetroVietnam is accelerating works to extract oil and gas in several fields in order to maintain and raise production output in the following years, PetroVietnam General Director Tran Ngoc Canh said in Hanoi on April 12.
PetroVietnam will develop the fourth production stage at the PM3/Cai Nuoc field complex, offshore southernmost Ca Mau province.
The State-run corporation also plans the development of the Rang Dong (Dawn) field in the second phase, offshore southern Vung Tau City.
PetroVietnam will also develop Rong Doi and Rong Doi Tay gas fields and Su Tu Den-Su Tu Vang complex, offshore Vung Tau City.
Other fields in Blocks B &48/95, 52/97 of Chevron/Unocal, which supply gas for O Mon zone, will also be executed.
Works at these fields will be carried out this year, Canh said.
PetroVietnam is exploiting oil and gas in nine fields but production output is falling, he added.
In related news, PetroVietnam expects to begin commercial oil production in Malaysia in the third quarter of this year and in Algeria by 2009.
Canh said, Vietnam’s oil production volume was down 11 per cent to 4.38 million tons in the first three months of this year while gas production reached 1.82 billion cubic meters of gas.
