US Lawsuits Turn Vietnam's Seafood Exports to EU
Vietnamese seafood enterprises are now striving to boost up exports at other markets, especially European countries after suffering numerous difficulties caused by two anti-dumping lawsuits by the US, one of Vietnam’s biggest seafood importers, according to the Ministry of Fisheries
The seafood industry also pays more attention to diversifying their products with basa and tra catfish emerging as the key ones in those markets.
To boost shipments to the Old Continent, the aquatic sector will continue to carry out its trade promotion activities and coordinate with Vietnam’s diplomatic and commercial agencies there to help the producers overcome technical and trade barriers in the foreign markets.
The sector will also provide local businesses with market information and organize training courses on integration and trade laws abided by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other countries.
Vietnam now ships 23.2 per cent of its seafood export volume to the EU, 23 per cent to Japan, and 18.2 per cent to the US.
Recently, the European Committee has allowed additional 38 Vietnamese seafood enterprises to export their products to the EU, bringing the total number of Vietnam’s firms eligible to ship seafood to the market to 171.
