Vietnam Airlines Buys 22 Engines for 10 New Airbus A321s
Vietnam Airlines (VNA) has signed a contract to purchase twenty-two V2533-A5 engines from International Aero Engines (IAE) for 10 Airbus A321 aircraft which will be delivered to the airline in early 2007, the national flag carrier has said.
However, the carrier did not announce the value of the contract.
Of the engines, 20 will be installed on wings of the planes and the remainders of two will be standbys.
This is the second contract that VNA has signed with IAE to buy engines, raising the total number of engines ordered from IAE to 33.
VNA director general Nguyen Xuan Hien said the carrier hoped that IAE would continue providing perfect services as it did with five previously purchased A321s.
IAE regional vice president John Swanson said that IAE would work side-by-side with Vietnam Airlines to expand its aircraft fleet and pledged to provide the best possible services.
Vietnam Airlines already operates five V2500-powered A321s on its Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City corridor and on regional routes serving Hong Kong, Taipei, Bangkok and Singapore.
IAE is a multinational engine consortium comprising Pratt and Whitney, Rolls-Royce, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines. The group has delivered over 1,300 V2500-powered aircrafts with accumulated flight time exceeding a combined 33 million flying hours.
