Vietnam-Austria Trade Posts EUR106Mln in First Half of 2006

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Austria reached EUR106 million in the first half of this year, said the Austrian General Statistics Office.
 
The office, however, gave no exact comparison with the same period of last year.
 
Of the sum, Vietnam’s exports to the European country increased by 26.2 per cent on-year to EUR87.71 million, nearly equal to the country’s total earnings from this market in 2002, which stood at EUR88.94 million.
 
Chemical products, beverage, rice, seafood, pharmaceuticals, woodworks, garments and textiles, footwear, machines and equipment are Vietnam’s main export items to Austria. Among them, chemical products reported the highest growth of 571.2 per cent in the reviewed period, followed by beverage, 453 per cent, rice, 337.4 per cent, pharmaceutical products, 100 per cent and seafood, 95 per cent.
 
Meanwhile, the country spent EUR18.3 million on imports from this country during the time, up 10.1 per cent on-year, resulting in its trade surplus of EUR69.42 million.
 
It is estimated that Vietnam’s export revenue to Austria in 2006 will rise by 25 per cent on-year. MoT
