Hanoi is gearing up final preparations for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting Week, which is scheduled to take place in the city from November 12-19, with the view to possibly best advertise its tourism sector, Hanoi Tourism Service announced.
At present, the hospitality service has instructed large travel agencies to build a number of specific travel programs for Hanoi and neighboring provinces to serve guests to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting and other related events.
It also plans to arrange tourism information tables in the conference zone and hotels in order to guests with necessary programs. Furthermore, it has encouraged artists to produce souvenirs for guests.
In addition, the service has printed 3,000 booklets to be presented through the Secretariat of the National Committee on APEC 2006 to the delegates. The service is installing 70 booths in public areas, tourist sites and hotels in order to provide tourism and socio-economic information about the city.
So far, as many as 25 hotels in Hanoi which are capable of offering a total of almost 4,300 rooms with satellite televisions, swimming pools, trade centers and essential interior furniture for high-ranking delegations, pressmen and businessmen to the conference have been selected to serve high-ranking delegations and organizing big international conferences.
Training programs for tourism staff and security force are also ongoing, Cao Thi Ngoc Lan, vice Head of the service said, adding that gastronomy for APEC guests are also paid attention to.
“APEC is a unique opportunity for the city to promote its tourism potential. Therefore we are trying our best to finish all the preparations perfectly before the week comes.
It is expected that around 10,000 State leaders and tourists from APEC economies to arrive in the city and Vietnam during the event,
The APEC group consists of 21 member economies including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the US and Vietnam.
Currently, the number of arrivals from APEC member nations to Vietnam accounts for 75 per cent of the total figure of international tourists to Vietnam.
Hanoi targets to receive 5.7 million tourists in 2006, including 1.2 foreign visitors, up 22 per cent on-year.
