With the purposes of surveying the market, seeking business partners and resuming traditional cooperative relationship, a 15-company delegation accompanied President of Slovakia Ivan Gasparovic on his official visit to Vietnam from October 16 to 18. On the sideline of the Vietnam-Slovakia Business Forum, the Vietnam Business Forum Magazine interviewed Mr. Vlastimil Podlucky, General Director of TRECIN Military Repairing Joint Stock Company.

Could you kindly tell the objective of your Vietnamese visit?

We are a wholly military-run company. We repair armoured and motorized vehicles for the Ministry of Defence. Our objective of this visit is to seek partners in various Vietnamese ministries to cooperate in repairing, upgrading and overhauling military equipment. Besides, we also supply spare parts and cooperate in manufacturing machinery parts, containers and light vehicles.

How do you evaluate the Vietnamese investment environment and why has your company decided to open a representative office in Vietnam?

The Vietnamese market is very open. Many projects have been guaranteed and approved by the Government. The guarantee makes us believe in the cooperation with Vietnamese companies.

Vietnam is on the right track and is a promising land. With its open-door policy and international economic integration, Vietnam is generating new opportunities for domestic and international companies. We believe that Vietnam will strongly develop in the next 10 years; thus, we decided to open the representative office in Vietnam in 2005.

Can you brief us about the operation of this representative office?

We will be the bridge to link businesses of the two countries to boost economic cooperation through trading, image, trademark popularisation and others. We also help Slovakian companies, which want to invest in Vietnam. Besides, our company assist Slovakian open representative offices in Vietnam. Our representative office is a representative of many Slovakian companies in Vietnam.

One of the strong points of your company is producing mobile clinics. What do you think about the cooperation of your company in this field with remote areas in Vietnam?

The cooperation in this field is only in the initial phase. I think that we can collaborate to produce mobile clinics in Vietnam in the future. We can also supply small battle-field mobile clinics with full services to serve people in far and remote areas. The issue is that we should have concrete cooperation mode. On this basis, we can help develop practical health service for the people.

How do you think about the prospects of the two-country cooperation after the Slovak President’s visit?

After a period of interruption, Slovak companies began seeking the market and old business partners in Vietnam. Previously, we had many Vietnamese friends who studied and worked in Czechoslovakia.

The industry of Slovakia has a tradition and we hope it will continue upholding its strong points. The most important thing now is to find suitable partners in Vietnam.
