Electricity Group of Vietnam (EVN) will require VND39 trillion ($2.44 billion) to carry out about 4,000 power generation and electricity grid projects in 2007, to ensure enough electricity for the country’s socioeconomic development, EVN said January 23.

To mobilize the money, EVN will work out measures speeding up, while ensuring quality, its existing power projects using foreign investments funneled from World Bank, ADB and the Japanese Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC).

EVN said it will also sell stakes of its projects and joint stock companies with dominating stakes holdings.

In the first quarter particularly, EVN will issue VND2 trillion ($125 million) construction bonds, in close cooperation with banks to prepare loans for new power plants that will be launched this year.

Last year, the group mobilized VND26 trillion ($1.6 billion) satisfying the capital investment demand. (People’s Army, Vietnam & World Economy)
