Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung asked the country’s trade representative offices abroad, especially trade counselors, to become a reliable bridge between local and foreign investors and traders.
The cabinet official made the request at the two-day commercial counselor conference opened in Hanoi yesterday, with the participation of 140 trade counselors and attachés from 55 trade offices abroad, and representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, aiming to discuss measures expanding export markets.
Speaking at the event, Trade Minister Truong Dinh Tuyen also urged the trade offices to improve their market research quality to help create breakthroughs in foreign market-related activities.
"Market-involved barriers should be discovered fast and resolved, the quality of study on markets, commodities, policies and import-export management measures should be increased, in addition to providing assistance for businesses seeking partners and markets," the minister said.
The minister also praised the effective coordination of trade representative agencies abroad and trade promotion organizations inside the country in carrying out promotion activities in recent years.
They helped provide local businesses with information on markets, commodity prices, consumers' demands, as well as information on their partners, rivals and trade laws, he said.
Vietnam is targeted to earn $47.54 billion from exports this year, up 20 per cent on-year, and to spend $52.2 billion on imports, up 17.5 per cent, according to the MoT’s plan. (Vietnam & World Economy Jan 24 p1, Liberated Saigon Jan 24 p2)
