US Helps Build 1,200MW Power Plant in Vietnam
The US government will provide US$332,900 in non-refundable aid for legal consultancy on the construction of the coal-fuelled power plant Mong Duong II, with capacity of 1,200 MW in the northern province of Quang Ninh, state media reported Wednesday.
Vietnam’s Industry Deputy Minister Do Huu Hao and James A. Wilderotter, director of the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) signed an agreement on legal assistance for the work Mar 6 in Hanoi.
According to Hao the plant, to be invested by US energy corporation AES in a joint venture with the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industrial Corporation, will be carried out in the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) form
The work has a total investment capital of US$1.463 billion.
Negotiations between related parties on the project are underway with the aim of submitting to the government all necessary documents for investment license this year.
The project is scheduled to be operational in 2011-2012. (Liberated Saigon, Vietnam Economic Times, VNA)
