China Southern Power Grid Corporation Ltd. (CSG) will continue plans for a 3,000-megawatt coal-to-power plant, the largest of its kind in southern Vietnam, state media reported.

CSG will conduct a pre-feasibility study for the plant in July, said a senior official from the Corp, adding the project will be carried out in the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT) within 25 years, in the central province of Binh Thuan.

In the first phase, two 600-MW turbines valued at US$1.4 billion will be installed in April 2008 and scheduled for operation in April 2011, said the official.

The Chinese Corp, which is selling 200 megawatts to Electricity group of Vietnam to provide for the five provinces of Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, Yen Bai, Ha Giang and Lang Son, is expected to raise that to 400MW. (Labour, Vietnam Panorama)
