PV Power to Start US$2 Bln Power Project in Laos in Apr 2008
PetroVietnam Power Corp (PV Power), an affiliate of state-owned oil monopoly PetroVietnam group, will start to build a 1,410 MW hydropower plant at a total cost of US$2 billion in Luang Prabang in Laos in April 2008, a source from the company said.
Once fully operational in 2013 or 2014, the BOT plant is expected to generate from seven to eight billion kWh of electricity annually, fuelling both Vietnam and Laos, said PV Power general director Le Hong Tinh.
PV Power started operation June 15, 2007 with a registered capital of VND7.6 trillion (US$475 million), under the shareholding company with four subordinates and five associated companies.
The corporation has joined in Ca Mau and Nhon Trach power projects, and plans to invest in Nam Chien, Dak Drinh and Xekaman 1, 4 and 4 hydropower projects.
PV Power has targeted to produce 6,550 MW by 2015. (VNA, VietNamNet)
