3rd Private Airline Springs up in Vietnam
The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) said it has just received application to set up third private airline in Vietnam, the Vnexpress reported.
 
The airline will be named &ldquoMekong Air&rdquo, mainly invested by the Ha Long Production Development and Investment JSC, southernmost Kien Giang province.
 
The CAAV said Mekong Air is the new name of the Phu Quoc Air that the government ed to be the third private airline in the country&rsquos aviation development draft.
 
The airline will have a registered capital of VND600 billion, VND300 billion higher than minimum capital regulated in the Aviation Law.
 
In draft submitted to the CAAV, Mekong Air will use Canadian Bombadier aircraft to offer domestic flights between HCM City and Can Tho, Rach Gia and Phu Quoc.
 
The first flight is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2009.
 
Getting license, Mekong Air will be the third private airline in Vietnam, behind Vietjet Air and SpeedUp Air. Vietjet Air will conduct its first flight late 2008.
 
The CAAV said many groups and individuals in Vietnam had interest to set up their own airlines.
 
Vietnam currently has five airlines, including state-owned Vietnam Airlines, joint stock Pacific Airlines and VASCO, and two private airlines of Vietjet Air and Speed Up Air. (vnexpress.net)
