Vietnam Needs US$7.6 Bln for Environmental Protection
Vietnam’s economic sectors will need VND124 trillion (US$7.6 billion) for environmental protection, heard a dialogue on environment Nov 25 held in Hanoi.
The event was co-organized by the Ministries of Industry and Trade, Natural Resources and Environment, Science and Technology, and Planning and Investment.
Addressing the conference, Associate Prof Phan Dang Tuat, head of the Research Institute for Industrial Policy and Strategy said that the steel sector was accused of the most serious polluters.
Vietnam’s environment pollution level will be 4 to 5 times higher than current levels by 2010 if the country doesn’t have measures to cope with, Tuan noted.
Vietnam is forecast to lose 0.3 per cent of the country’s GDP in 2010 and 1.2 per cent in 2020 without protective measures. (Pioneer)
