VMS MobileFone Inks US$48 Mln Pact with French Telecom
VMS MobileFone has inked an agreement worth US$48 million with French Telecom Alcatel Lucent on expansion of VMS service in Vietnam.
Under the deal, the two sides will join hands in upgrading VMS Base Transmission Stations and expanding VMS service.
The French Telecom will notably install more than 1,400 GSM/EDGE BTS in an effort to raise call quality and coverage in northern localities.
Vietnam’s second-biggest mobile phone network VMS - MobiFone MobiFone now has more than 13.34 million subscribers, occupying 27.8 per cent of the local mobile phone market share. It is expected to hold the market share of 50 per cent after the share sale.
In 2008, MobiFone will upgrade and expand its network by operating an additional 6,000 BTS nationwide to maintain its title of Best Quality Mobile Phone Network 2008. (Investment, Vietnam Economic Times)
