Vietnam to Try Utmost for Asean Presidency in 2010: Deputy PM

Vietnam will likely take its role as presidency of the Asean bloc well next year, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem said at the first working session of national committee for Vietnam’s Asean presidency on Jul 8.
 
Khiem, who is also chairman of the 19-member committee, asked relevant agencies to urgently complete preparations, including schedules, contents of and places for the conferences to be held in the year.
 
During its presidency year, Vietnam will be the host of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the East Asia Summit, eight ASEAN ministerial meetings, the group’s summit meetings and those between the group and its partners such as ASEAN+1, ASEAN+3.
 
ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. (News, The People)
