Nokia Siemens Networks has won a contract from Vietnamese telecom service provider Viettel to help build a 3G network in Vietnam.

Nokia Siemens Networks, which is a joint venture between Finland's Nokia Corp. and Germany's Siemens AG, will begin supplying hardware, software and services for Viettel in August to build the network.

The project, which is the first 3G network to have its infrastructure built by Nokia Siemens in Southeast Asia, will be completed in January 2010.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.

The military-run Viettel Corporation is among four telecom providers licensed to provide 3G services in Vietnam.

Recently, Viettel also inked a contract with Chinese Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd to develop the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) infrastructure for its 3G network by the end of this year. (Labor)
