Vietnam to Use Japanese Bullet-train Technology for US$56-B Railway
Vietnam plans to use Japan’s bullet-train technology or Shinkansen system for a US$56-billion rail link Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyen Huu Bang the chief executive of Vietnam Railway Corporation said that the Vietnamese government has already given in-principle approval for the system.
Bang said the capital for the US$56-billion project would come from loans from Japan, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
The 1,560-kilometer high-speed railway route would replace the current link connecting the north and the south.
The Southeast Asian country plans to debut high-speed trains by 2020, the official said.
After a report about Vietnam’s use of Japanese bullet-train technology, Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., Japan’s second-largest maker of heavy machinery, led gains by train-makers in Tokyo. (Young People)
