Vietnamese seafood exporters to the EU will face more difficulties the European Committee plans to put the Law on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing (IUU) into effect as of January 1 next year.

Under the law, all seafood import consignments have to have certificates showing the names of the fishing ships that caught the fish and the territorial waters where the products were caught.

This is a difficult-to-meet requirement, and will have big impacts on Vietnam’s seafood exports, as the EU remains the biggest export market for Vietnam, according to the local exporters.

So far, 330 Vietnamese companies have been approved to ship seafood products to EU market.

Last year, EU imported 350,000 tons of seafood products from Vietnam. (Vietnam Economic Times)
