EuroCommerce, the European wholesaler and retailer organization, urged the bloc Oct 12 to remove the anti-dumping duties on shoes originated from China and Vietnam from January 2010, the Communist Party of Vietnam said on its website.

The extension of penalty taxes on shoe imports from the two Asian nations may cause a reduction in purchasing and make it hard for the EU economy to recover, EuroCommerce General Secretary Xavier Durier cited by the party’s web.

The European Commission (EC) proposed an extension by another 15 months of penalty taxes on Vietnam and China’s shoes Oct 8.

EC data shows that Chinese and Vietnamese shoes make up 30% of the EU footwear market. (CPV, VietnamNet)
