Becamex IDC Starts Building $7.85B Town in South Vietnam
Becamex IDC Corp has started building a new town with a total investment of VND150 trillion ($7.85 billion) in the southern province of Binh Duong, about 30 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City.
Of the sum, the company will spend VND100 trillion on infrastructure works of the project, including roads, water supply and drainage system, and wastewater treatment facilities, the Thanh Nien newspaper reported April 26.
The Binh Duong town will have apartment buildings, villas, schools, hotels, restaurants and supermarkets. In the future, a subway and elevated train network will connect the city and neighboring provinces.
The town is designed to accommodate 125,000 residents and more than 400,000 people from other places to come to work.
The newspaper, however, did not give any details on construction schedule, but said the town will cover 1,000 hectares in six communes and wards of Ben Cat district and Thu Dau Mot township.
As many as 20 local and international groups and companies have so far committed to invest in the town. Those include a $400 million hi-tech area by Singaporean-owned Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd. (Thanh Nien Apr 26)
