DED Supports Vietnam's Poverty Reduction

Together with Mozambique, Bolivia and Yemen, Vietnam has become a case-study for the "poverty reduction programme 2015" of Germany, announced Ms. Loebsack, Deputy Director of German Development Service (DED), on the occasion of her visit to Vietnam from 18-21 Oct, 2004.

The programme will provide Euro250,000 each year to poverty reduction programmes in Vietnam. Ms. Loebsack visited some DED projects and evaluated DED activities over the past 11 years in Vietnam.

DED started its activities in Vietnam in 1993 with the objective of developing the economy and creating jobs, medical care for disabled people, and rural development and resource management. DED promotes public and private partnership (PPP) encouraging the social responsibility of businesses. So far, DED has some 30 projects in Vietnam. In the coming years, DED will reserve 30-40 per cent of its resources and personnel for PPP.
