US Commerce Agency Vows Assistance for Vietnam's WTO Entry
The US Chamber of Commerce supports Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) as it will benefit Vietnam-US economic ties, affirmed the Chamber Vice President for Asia Myron Brilliant yesterday in Hanoi.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, the visitor stressed that his organization will spare no effort to help US businessmen, politicians and people better understand Vietnam.
The US chamber and its counterpart, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) will act as a bridge to bring more US entrepreneurs to Vietnam, he added. Brilliant also expressed his desire to help Vietnam successfully organize the APEC summit in 2006.
Vietnam applied to join the WTO in 1995 and plans to become a member of the organization late this year.
To date, the country has completed nine multinational negotiations rounds and concluded talks on its accession to the WTO with eight member countries, namely, Cuba, Chile, the EU, Argentina, Brazil, Singapore, Uruguay and South Korea
It will sit through the tenth multinational round scheduled for September and finish negotiations with another 20 partners including Japan and the US this year.
