Gov't Allocates Additional US$12.5Mln to Upgrade Sea Dikes
The Vietnamese Prime Minister has decided to fund an additional VND200 billion (US$12.5 million) to localities to implement a program reinforcing, protecting, and upgrading sea dikes.
The funding will be allocated for the northern provinces of Quang Ninh, Nam Dinh, and Ninh Binh, and central provinces including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thue Thien Hue, Quang Nam, and Danang city.
Nam Dinh will receive the most capital of VND70 billion (US$4.3 million), followed by Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa with VND35 billion (US$2.18 million) each.
The PM also allowed the use of 2008 Budget Estimation Capital for program implementation this year.
In May last year, the Government approved a plan to upgrade 1,400 km of coastal dikes ranging from northern Quang Ninh to central Quang Nam province, with a total investment of VND10 trillion (US$632.91 million). VND280 billion (US$17.72 million) was initially injected into the upgrade in 2006.
In the next five years, the Government plans to double spending to around VND42.76 trillion (US$2.7 billion) for the work. (Pioneer, Vietnam Panorama)
