Govt Okays US$832Mln Capital for HCM Road Project Phase 1

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung recently approved total investment of VND13.31 trillion (US$832 million) for Ho Chi Minh road project phase I, state media said.
 
Under the the Premier’s decision, sections including Hoa Lac-Xuan Mai-Cam Lo, Thanh My-Ngoc Hoi-Tan Canh and feeder roads of Khe Cat-Khe Sanh and Dak Rong-Thanh My will be built.
 
The government leader added more sub-projects to the phase, specifically 54-km Nghi Son-Bai Tranh, a 24-km road stretching from Ho Chi Minh road to the late president’s hometown, a road reaching the World Heritage site of Phong Nha-Ke Bang, a section in Hue city and national highway 14B.
 
The construction is due for completion in 2007, but solidification is expected to be complete in 2008.
 
According to 2004 estimates, the whole 3,167 kilometer long Ho Chi Minh Road will run through 30 cities and provinces of Vietnam, starting from northern mountainous Cao Bang province and ending in southernmost Ca Mau province.
 
The Vietnam’s longest road, to cost over VND33.64 trillion (US$2.1 billion), is slated for completion in 2010. (New Hanoi, VnExpress)
