$27.93B Vietnam Trade Declared via E-Customs Procedures in 2010
Thirteen customs departments in Vietnam are estimated to have applied e-customs declarations for imports and exports totaling $27.93 billion in 2010, jumping from $5.15 billion in 2009, an official of the Vietnam General Department of Customs (VGDC) said.
Up to 70 offices under 13 municipal and provincial customs departments have so far implemented e-customs procedures under a pilot program started in October 2005, Nguyen Duong Thai, deputy general director of the VGDC said at a two-day meeting to conclude on December 29 to review the sector’s activities in 2010.
The customs sector targets to apply e-customs procedures at between 18 and 20 departments nationwide by end-2011, the VGDC was cited by the Tuoi tre newspaper as saying.
E-customs procedures are now being applied for three fields of trading, outsourcing and export-oriented goods, the department noted, adding that the country has piloted online procedures for the export-processing sector and prioritized enterprises.
The e-customs declaration program has been piloted in Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City customs offices since October 2005 and expanded to eight others in Hanoi, Lang Song, Quang Ninh, Danang, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau since mid-December 2009. Can Tho, Ha Tinh and Lao Cai are the latest localities allowed to apply the services this year. (Youth)
