The Northern Electricity Development and Investment Joint Stock Company 1 (NEDI 1) August 10 kicked off construction on Nho Que 1 hydropower plant in northern Ha Giang province, local media reported.
The VND688-billion (US$43 million) hydroelectric plant, the ninth of its kind in the province, will have two turbines with combined capacity of 32 MW.
The plant is due for water hoarding in August 2008 and officially operation in March 2010, to turn out 129 kWh of electricity annually.
The Nho Que 1 hydropower project on the Nho Que tributary, a branch of the Gam river system is expected to help prevent floods that will facilitate transport and fishery development for local ethnic minority people.
Under a plan on hydroelectricity generation for the Gam River, construction of the Nho Que 3 and 2 plants on the Nho Que river branch will start late this year. Both plants, when completed, will generate a total of 180 MW for the national grid. (VNA)
