Vietnam has raked in nearly US$6 billion from goods export to the EU market this year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade. On average, the country’s exports were valued at over US$700 million monthly, said the ministry.
Apparel, footwear, woodwork and seafood products were Vietnam’s main export items to the market.
Vietnam is forecast the bag $8.5 billion from exports to the EU this year, up 23.1 per cent on-year, said the ministry, adding that the EU is the nation’s second biggest exporting market after the United Sates (the US).
Exports of electronic and computer parts are estimated to obtain revenue of over $2 billion this year, said vice chairman cum general secretary of Vietnam Association of Electronic Enterprises.
By late August electronic exports were valued at $1.31 billion, up 24.6 per cent on-year, with main exporters of Fujisu, Samsung Vietnam, Hanel Hanoi and Canon.
Statistics said that two-way trade between Vietnam and the EU considerably increased over the past seven years, up from $3.6 billion in 1999 to $10.2 billion in 2006.
In 2006, Vietnam’s exports to the EU reached $7.09 billion, accounting for 17.8 per cent of the country’s total export revenue.
Vietnam’s main exports to the EU include footwear, apparels, seafood products, coffee, wood and plastic products, electronic and computer produces, handicrafts and fine arts, rubber, pepper, tea, bicycles and accessories. (Youth)
