Ho Chi Minh city is seeking the government approval to build an expressway linking the city with southern provinces worth a total investment capital of VND19.6 trillion (US$1.22 billion), Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.
The expressway running from Tien Giang Province’s Trung Luong, through Long An province’s Ben Luc District and Ho Chi Minh city’s Binh Chanh and Nha Be districts, to Dong Nai province’s Nhon Trach and Long Thanh districts will allow vehicles to travel at 120 kilometers per hour.
Construction on the 59-kilometer road is expected to start in 2008 and be completed in 2010.
Once approved, the expressway will be the sixth surrounding Ho Chi Minh city under the city’s transport development program from now to 2020.
Under the program, the city will also build Ho Chi Minh city-Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh city-Long Thanh-Dau Giay-Da Lat expressways and some beltways.
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, the country will build expressways connecting Lang Son-Bac Giang-Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh-Haiphong-Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa-Vinh, Danang-Quang Ngai, Danang-Ha Nha, Long Thanh-Dau Giay, Dau Giay-Dalat, Ho Chi Minh City-Moc Bai, and Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong-Can Tho from now to 2025.
