Vietnamese are forecast to buy up to 320,000 laptops worth US$336 million in 2008 up from 180,000 units expected for this year, international market research GfK said in its recent survey.

The number is feasible as the country’s computer market is estimated to have grown at more than 100 per cent annually for the past few years, noted Lenovo general director Tran Hai Linh.

“We can see a lot of businesses opportunities here,” Linh said, adding that G-series with Lenovo 14.1 monitor inches being offered at US$680 are much preferred in the local market.

In the first eight months, Vietnam imported as many as 110,000 laptops, up 90 per cent on year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
