More than 200 outstanding craft villages representing for 2,000 villages around Vietnam are showcasing their best products at the CraftVietnam 2007 festival in Hanoi November 14.
The expo aims to honor Vietnam's excellent handicrafts and forestry, fisheries and farm produces as well.
The contest of hand-made kites made by artisans nationwide will take place during the event, in which a 12m four-flute-carried kite made by Dong Anh district artisans is expected to fly.
Apart from showcasing hand-made items, the festival will give visitors the chance to enjoy love song duets, songs of strolling blind musicians, water puppet and traditional children plays, and the art of calligraphy writing.
Ten Japanese businesses have arrived in Vietnam to seek for handicrafts business opportunities and take part in.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has submitted to the Government a plan for developing craft villages from 2008 through 2015 with a vision to 2020.
The ministry envisages investing VND 9.6 trillion ($599 million) to preserve and develop 1,130 craft villages in 32 provinces and cities, including developing 119 craft villages for tourism services and 229 new craft villages in 2008-15.The plan will also develop 388 new craft villages for tourism services in 2016-20.
