Cua Ong Coal Production Company: Production Associated With Environment Protection

Cua Ong Coal Production Company in Cam Pha, Quang Ninh Province, under Vietnam Coal and Mineral Group, specialises in the selection, production, distribution and shipping of coal products.

 

The amount of coal Cua Ong Co exports makes up 70 per cent of the industry’s total exports. The company is therefore ranked as one of the biggest coal sorting centres in Vietnam. To boost output, the loading and unloading capacity from storage to the consumption market has been expanded as the company has installed a new, modern, production line worth VND520 billion, using German technology.

 

Due to its business characteristics, the company can strongly affect the coal market. Accordingly, its strategy is “sustainable development and production associated with environment protection,” said Mr Tran Van Ve, general director of Cua Ong. In compliance with this policy, the company will build a water treatment system using filters and high pressure engines to save natural resources worth VND130 billion in 2008. In fact, the project is already being carried out. It is a rotating machine that prevents mud from escaping into the sea. Embankment systems are also under construction, including seaside embankments and anti-wave embankments to improve the maritime environment. Green trees are planted and a water ejecting system is already built within production areas. Now, Cua Ong is applying environmental control systems, in accordance with ISO 1400- 2001, to manage the level of dust and sound.

 

Besides, Cua Ong Coal Company actively popularises environmental activities via mass media to raise people’s awareness of environment protection. It always obeys regulations on labour safety, provides workers with safety equipment and imposes strict punishment on workers violating labour protection regulations. Ve said that if any worker violates work safety regulations, he or she will have to re-study the safety rules for 7 days or even half a month before taking the examination on work safety regulations. If they get 7 marks or more, they will be permitted to work again. With this flexible but strict method, Cua Ong Company has gained great achievements towards its target of sustainable environmental development.
