The Vietnamese government said on its Web site that it has given the nod to a bio-fuel development plan through 2015 and a vision toward 2025, which is aimed to produce more renewable energy sources to feed the country’s fast-growing economy.
By 2015, Vietnam will strive to produce 250,000 tons of ethanol and vegetable oil to fuel 1 per cent of the national gasoline demand, the government said.
The country will explore ways to turn out 1.8 million ton of the products through 2025 to feed 5 per cent of the national need, it added.
The government has worked out four mains tasks in the near future, including science and technology research and development, piloting production of bio-fuel products, building and development bio-fuel industry, and reinforcing competence on bio-fuel in combination with boosting international cooperation.
Bio-fuel is often made from bio-creature-sourced compounds such as animal fat, vegetable oil, corn, and agricultural and industrial waste like straw and sawdust.
Bio-fuel is friendly to the environment, which is considered the most prominent advantage of this energy.
With growing energy consumption and fast urbanization, Vietnam may face energy exhaustion in the next 15 or 20 years, warned the Vietnam Energy Construction and Investment Association.
Vietnam is estimated to lack 4.3 billion -10.3 billion kWh of power from 2007 to 2009. (Government Website)
