According to General Department of Customs, in 2007, 9,234 violations have been found in trade fraud and smuggling worth VND145,112 billion. The Anti-Smuggling Department discovered 71 cases  with over VND223 billion.

The trade fraud cases increased 54 per cent while smuggling reduced 51.6 per cent and the value increased 73 per cent compared to 2006.  It shows that the violations now focus on loop holes in custom procedures and policy.  The increase of 987 per cent of customs violations in 2006 serves as a warning to customs offices at grass-roots levels in their performances.

Some serious cases were found in 2007 such as 102 containers of precious timber exporting to China valued at VND150 billion,  tax evasions by ABC and Hai Van companies worth some VND150 billion.
