Vietnam has targeted to ship abroad US$3.5 billion worth of electronic products in 2008, up 59 per cent on year, said Tran Quang Hung, general secretary of the country’s electronic business association Wednesday.

The goal is achievable as the world’s demand for electronic goods is increasing sharply meanwhile many foreign invested high tech projects in Vietnam will reach full capacity then, Hung noted.

Vietnam’s main electronic export market is the EU with US$1.31 billion as of last August, and its main exporters are Fujisu, Samsung Vietnam, Hanel Hanoi and Canon.

We [local producers] will focus on enhancing accessories production and making high value added products like DVD players, LCD and plasma monitors and gradually reject out date production lines, Hung added.

The Southeast Asia country imported US$2.94 billion of electronic parts and products in 2007, up 43.7 per cent and exported US$2.17 billion, up 27.5 per cent on year, said the General Statistic Office. (Vietnam Investment Review)
