The Vinh Thuan Joint Stock Company January 2 inaugurated an 18-hole golf course in Mong Cai town of northern coastal Quang Ninh province, bringing the total number of golf courses in Vietnam to 16, state media said.

The US$25 million golf course, the first of its kind in Quang Ninh, is the first phase of a resort project built by the company.

Currently, Vietnam has more than 30 golf course projects in some stage of construction. The country’s rising popularity as a golf destination mirrors similar developments for Vietnam on the world stage.

The tourism sector of Vietnam attracted over US$1.7 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) from 41 projects in 2007. Of them, golf course and resort projects lured most investors. (VNA, Vietnam Panorama)
