Singapore's Keppel Corp has won a US$205 million contract to build a jackup rig for a Vietnamese company, a company official who familiar with this deal said March 5.
Keppel FELS Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine, will construct the rig for PetroVietnam Drilling Investment Corp., a subsidiary of PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Services Corp.
The rig, with a drilling depth of 30,000 feet, is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2009, Keppel said in a statement.
There will be some 900 exploration wells in Vietnam over the next 15 years, said Mr. Do Van Khanh, chief executive of PV Drilling and chairman of PVD Invest.
