To study Nortel’s activities in Vietnam, VIB Forum has interviewed Nortel Vietnam’s General Manager, Nicholas Vreugdenhil.

There is information of online trading service in Vietnam’s financial market from the third quarter of this year. Several companies want to use this service. Could you share your experience in this area?

Nortel has gained experience in this business area. Many securities companies, banks and stock exchanges such as New York, Mumbai and Wells Fargo, have used Nortel’s service. This proves Nortel’s experience in cooperation with different companies.

Nortel is one of the pioneers in securities and has coordinated with many banks and finance companies. The company has pledged to provide better services for customers.

Could you give your comments about the challenges to ensuring internet security?

Security is getting more and more important as online databases are a key source of information. If the databases are stolen or destroyed, enterprises may suffer serious losses. Nortel, therefore, has worked out a multi-layer security network to stop viruses or hackers, and check whether users and equipment connections are safe or not. The network also helps protect communication security when information is being transmitted.

Nortel has introduced different solutions to protect business from eavesdroppers and illegal access.

Could you mention Nortel’s technical solutions, including those to prevent violations by enterprise staff?

To ensure information security, Nortel has applied a regulation allowing each staff member access to certain items of information and databases. Nortel has a mechanism to determine each staff member’s responsibility and only grant access to relevant information.

Could you disclose the company’s plan in Vietnam?

Nortel is one of the first hi-tech firms entering Vietnam as soon as the country opened its door to foreign investors. We consider Vietnam a potential market and will pour investments in local telecommunication groups and enterprises.

Nortel is now focusing on enterprises in the country. HT Mobile, VNPT, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication and several other government organisations have good relations with Nortel. The company plans to expand its operations in the financial market.

In the future, I think that not only financial and banking organisations but also other organisations in the areas of post, real estate and many other sectors related to online payment can use Nortel’s services. This is a big chance for Nortel in Vietnam.
