Vietnam's Coffee Export Falls 34 per cent in Jan-April

Vietnam exported only 445,000 tons of coffee in the first four months of 2008, a sharp fall of nearly 34 per cent against the same period of last year, figures provided by the General Statistics Office (GSO) showed.
 
The GSO also said the export brought in only US$906 million, down 6.9 per cent on year.
 
According to the Vietnam Trade Information Center, the country raked in US$682 million from shipping 345,192 tons of coffee between January and March.
 
Among importers, the U.S., Italy and Spain were the biggest, followed by Belgium, Japan and Britain.
 
In the first quarter of 2008, the U.S. spent US$81.51 million importing 39,827 tons of Vietnamese coffee, accounting for nearly 12 per cent and 11.5 per cent, respectively.
 
Meanwhile, Italy imported 27,620 tons worth US$54.2 million, and Spain imported 27,043 valued at US$54.1 million.
